Human Resources Manager

The successful candidate will be responsible for responsible for providing human resource guidance to the Ypsilanti management teams as well as lead and directs the functions of the Human Resources (HR) department to support operational efficiency and effectiveness. Key areas of responsibility include recruitment, training, performance management, labor and employee relations, ensuring legal and legislative compliance, policy creation and administration and ensuring effective delivery of HR support. 

What you will do

  • Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy particularly as it relates to current and future talent needs, recruiting, retention, and succession planning.
  • Provides support and guidance to HR department, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of harassment, discrimination, wrongdoing, and terminations.
  • Ensure fair and consistent HR practices and in place and consistently applied for resolving disputes, interpreting the collective bargaining agreement and settling grievances, conducting disciplinary actions, supporting employment laws and legal compliance, providing training and development, and administering performance management.
  • Manages the talent acquisition process, which includes recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified job applicants, particularly for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Provide advice and guidance to management for day-to-day labor relations (grievances, union issues) as well as during labor relations contract negotiations, including drafting proposals, grievances, union interactions and facilitation meetings with union representatives.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law

What you will need

  • Experience practicing HR in a manufacturing and unionized environment
  • Broad knowledge and demonstrated experience in; full cycle recruitment, retention, recognition, compensation and benefits, training and development
  • Experience handling disability claims, both occupational and non-occupational, as well as facilitated return to work programs
  • An excellent understanding of employment legislation and regulations-22
  • Post-secondary education within the field of HR and 3-5 years’ related HR experience; such as SHRM (Society for Human Resource Management) CP (Certified Professional) or SCP (Senior Certified Professional) an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications – Word, Power Point, Excel and Share Point
